I went to Tangier quite suddenly because I discovered I was on the verge of being an illegal alien in Europe. It was last-minute. My brothers' friend knew a guy in Tangier who had a riad. Aziz helped me with accoms at La Maison Blanche as well as a drive from the airport in the middle of the night. I spent 4 weeks there on my own. I didn't go anywhere else in Morocco because I wanted to get at least a little bit of a feel for how it was to live there. It was almost impossible to rent a guitar but I finally did. Renting is not an understood concept. It was a very used guitar, but it was enough.
I learned a little about Arabic music and Moroccan culture.

Being in a new place brings new sounds to your ears. I am always captivated by new sounds. I recorded some of them and used them as samples for this song.

The song is about the desire to lose oneself. and about unattainable love. It's about not wanting to leave Tangier, and wanting to disappear. and it compares Tangier to a lover I want but I cannot have.
