This is two songs crocheted together to make one. Something in the Wind, and Wide Awake.
There are two different tempos, just slightly. 4 bpm difference between the first part of the song and the 2nd. This is extra work for drummers, and renders most digital audio recording software completely stupid.
Sorry and thank you Barry Mirochnick for being your excellent self way over there in Vancouver and for setting up a recording scene in your rehearsal space so you could figure this song out and send us your amazing drum tracks.
Doug did one long superb synth take in lieu of bass and it was either him or Alex or both him and Alex who suggested the Juno bass, which was just perfect.
Alex had the idea of making reverb into an instrument. And then we stretched the tail through an entire verse, changing the pitch where necessary.
I was back in Canada for a part of the creation of this recording where my musical saw was gathering dust in my sister's basement. I recorded a lot of saw tracks at that time.
This is a breakup song.
Unfortunately.
lyrics
Hey, there’s something in the wind. Oooh there’s something in the wind.
Cold light streams in, and angles your chin. Did the seasons change again?
I know things you don’t know.
There’s something that I feel. There’s something that I feel.
And though I can’t tell if it’s fate or self-will, I imagine it’s real.
I know things you don’t know.
Hey, there’s something on my mind. Yeah, I got something on my mind.
Beside the feeling of holding your hand, I’ve been treating you unkind.
I know things you don’t know. I know things you don’t know.
I know …
I’m wide awake, you’re sleeping late on a soft bed that’s someone else’s.
I lie awake waiting for the rain. Tell me how long till it comes down again.
Now there’s a slow ache cuz I’m not sleeping. And all the same mistakes, well they’re like a big lake.
But time spent swimming, it aligns with nothing. I just dive right in it.
Let go of things you don’t know.
I’m wide awake, you’re sleeping late on a soft bed that’s someone else’s.
I lie awake waiting for the rain. Tell me how long till it comes down.
Tell me how long till it comes down. Tell me how long till it comes down.

This France-based Canadian songwriter fuses organic instrumentation, samples, field recordings, physical synths as well as
plug-ins plus vocal improvisation in a buoyant expansion of genres that could be described as electro-post-rock, or singer-songwriter art-pop or simply experimental pop. (with a slightly punk sensibility)....more
