about

This song was inspired by the tragic death of Scott Hutchison, the lead singer of Scottish band Frightened Rabbit.

It is a song for loved ones who are absent.

Alex Gamble plays ethereal reverb tail.
Julia Hambleton plays generous and tender bass clarinet.
Doug Friesen plays rich warm double bass plus electric bass.
Evan Cartwright plays warm drums that hold you like a hug.
Tom Meienburg plays nautically otherworldly fingernails on basket.

lyrics

I have waited for you in this home that’s my heart. There are flowers in the rooms all the days we’re apart.

“I’m away now”, you said, as you walked out the door. “Be good to those you love. They keep hold of who you are.”

Did the water welcome you? Was it colder on your skin? Were they sweeter, the bird songs? ... things you’ll never hear again.

Since you’re gone I need to reach you, like the sea needs the sky.
As the water rose to greet you, were you sad for the sadness to come?
... that’s come since you’re gone.

Still I wait here for you, while the birds sing their songs. I put flowers in the rooms in case you come back home.
Ooooooooo.
